About Saray

Saray Design supports artisans from around the world to create architectural and artistic commissions of outstanding beauty rooted in the historic craftsmanship traditions of South Asia and the Islamic world.
Great master artisans should be seen as living treasures. We are blessed to have them among us. Their work and knowledge should be protected and nurtured.
Working for over four decades with master artisans, Saray Design’s founder Mitchell Abdul Karim Crites has recreated vital links that support the highest quality craftsmanship. Forging relationships between workshops and new sources of income, our artisans respond to challenging commission for the artistic patrons of today.
We support artisans to think ‘big’, to create from within themselves and to find projects which will encourage them to train their children and other young people so that these precious traditions will be passed on to the next generation.
Our projects over the last forty-five years have directly affected the lives of more than 7000 skilled artists, stone carvers, inlay artisans, craftspersons and their families.
Saray Design supports individual masters and artisanal communities who work across a wide range of media and historic techniques.
Saray’s commissions have included monumental stone carving, precious stone inlay and works of art, calligraphy, manuscript, mural and miniature painting, architectural restoration and wood carving.
After decades of development and support, the master artisans with whom Saray Design works are unparalleled around the world for their knowledge, skill and artistry.
